Further Comments
This is a U.S. Navy commissioned launch, built in 1945 out with longleaf yellow pine (AKA heart pine, one of the most rot-resistant woods known) planking on oak ribs. In 1966, the boat was purchased by a naval architect who designed and built the cabin and pilothouse, using fir and marine plywood. The oak ribs were also doubled up at this time, making the hull very stiff and even stronger. The boat stayed in the family until until about 1995. The current owner purchased her in '98, and has cruised her extensively to Desolation Sound and the Gulf Islands. The boat has been maintained very well, hauled out about every three years to be scraped and a new coat of bottom paint applied. The decks have been glassed and have non skid surfaces. There is a small spot of rot at one of the pilothouse window frames which will require some attention, along with some small areas on the cabin in need of fresh paint, otherwise the boat is completely sound. It is very seaworthy, tracks beautifully, and has a very comfortable ride.
Overall the boat has beautiful lines. All the work done on her has been well thought out and professionally executed. The current owner is a professional marine mechanic with an excellent grasp of systems and maintenance, and the improvements reflect that.
The cabin has several very nice features, including a Wallas cooktop/heater, a 12v/110v refridgerator, a huge V berth sleeping area, a seperate head with macerator, and hot water. The Onan 3kw genset provides all the power you need when you're away from shore power - runs like a top! There is a professionally built enclosure for the back deck, enabling you and twenty of your friends to cruise the San Juans in style. This would also make a great liveaboard.
