TRITON (originally christened "Patton") was built to the highest U.S specifications for the U.S. Coast & Geodetic Survey (now part of NOAA) to survey the Alaskan Coast and Aleutian Islands in all seasons. TRITON was heavily built (fir over oak) to handle rough sea conditions. Original plans go with the boat.
