Further Comments

Winner of the 2014 Victoria Wooden Boat Festival 'Best Modern Classic', "Kintore" is a lovely William Garden adaptation of a Pacific Northwest Halibut Schooner.  This truly unique vessel combines all the character of a working vessel from a by-gone era, with the best of modern wooden boatbuilding methods and materials.

Her construction in 1995 was approached as building a 'hundred year boat' by a blue ribbon team in Maine using superior workmanship and materials, as written up in WoodenBoat Magazine (no.140).  Months spent in careful selection of wood produced a hull with massive old growth, long leaf Yellow Pine keel and keelsons, and quarter sawn 1 1/2" Eastern White cedar planking that is copper rivet fastened to doubled white Oak frames.

Her sea keeping abilities inspired by the original Halibut Schooners, ensure a modern cruising boat that serves her crew well, and is at home in Alaskan waters and the Bering Sea, while also making an excellent coastal cruiser.  Useful deck space, abundant storage, interior spaces that work and a dream galley are some of the many features that provide a degree of functionality usually found in much larger boats.

"Kintore" has proven herself to be a most able heavy displacement vessel with an especially easy motion in a sea-way. She is equipped with both steadying sails, as well as stabilizer poles with Kolstrand Paravanes (aka flopper-stoppers), which significantly reduce rolling in a beam sea.  She has cruised south from Maine to the Bahamas, has circumnavigated New England via the Hudson River, the Canals and Great Lakes, and the St. Lawrence Sea Way, as well as much Coastal cruising from Maine to Maryland, before her current owner shipped her to Washington state where she has spent the last 3 years cruising the sheltered inland waters of Puget Sound.

Her current owner is an experienced and knowledgeable retired professional mariner, and has kept her in truly excellent condition while endowing her with many recent upgrades.  She shows like a new vessel and is truly immaculate.

The word "Kintore" is an ancient Scottish name meaning 'Safe Haven'.
