Further Comments
This 16’ Cruisers Seafarer wood lapstrake (like a Lyman or Thompson) is the perfect blend of vintage charm with modern power. Restored in 2015. This runabout with a new Tohatsu 50 hp four-stroke is super-reliable and fun. I’m only selling to make room for a larger vintage boat I recently acquired.
Brand new Tohatsu MFS50 4-stroke, fuel-injected, 50 hp outboard with power tilt and trim installed in June 2017 provides excellent reliability, fuel economy and performance. The motor is still within Tohatsu’s 5-year warranty, and has had only 65 hours of use. The 16’ boat cruises easily in the 20’s mph, with maximum speed of 32 mph. Super reliable, great fuel economy, quiet, starts instantly.
Restoration in 2015 included new White Oak outer keel, bottom paint (Pettit Hard Racing Copper Bronze), topside paint, and varnish on Mahogany decks and inside hull. Also replaced steering cables, and added new bilge pump with two-way switch for manual or automatic/float operation. New wiring, fuses, and marine battery as well. Varnish was refreshed in 2017.
Recent photo shows bottom paint still in excellent condition. Boat is always stored on the dollies seen in the photo, supported at the transom and the base of the stem (as recommended for wooden lapstrake boats). I have been religious about flushing the motor and washing the hull every time the boat comes out of the water.
The Tohatsu tachometer can be pivoted back out of sight to maintain a vintage appearance. A modern 12 volt outlet is concealed behind the black rubber button of the original Johnson starter control panel. Two additional USB outlets are located behind the rear seat for passengers. AirGuide speedo, steering wheel, switches and hardware are all original.
Trailer has been converted to bunks in order to properly support the wooden lapstrake hull (see photo). New lights, wiring and re-packed wheel bearings in 2015. New spare tire also included.
Includes full set of canvas top, side windows, and rear cover (see photo). Canvas is original, and in very good condition. Cruisers Inc tags are still attached to the canvas.
This vintage runabout has had more than $11,000 invested (cost of new motor alone was $7K) to produce a well-sorted classic boat with modern power and reliability.
