Further Comments

I have a Very Nice Cruisers Inc. 18 ft Commander 1302. This came to me through an add

on Craigslist. The boat had been sitting , covered in a machine shed on a farm since 1982.

The paint on the starboard side was flaking, but it was fixable! The interior was dirty but in

great shape. I refreshed the varnish. The hull has been taken down to the wood and  many

screw holes have had new putty applied with marine filler. I applied 3 coats of  Interlux

marine primer and 3 coats of  Interlux Premium Yacht paint. The bottom has 2 coats of Pettit,

Old Salem, 1959 Hard racing copper bronze paint.

The transom was taken down to the wood and has had 4 coats of marine varnish. All

Britework was cleaned and polished and is in great condition.

The engine had and issue with the #1 rod bearing. The engine was removed and stripped down.

All cylinders were inspected and honed. The crank was turned down .010. The rod was replaced

on the #1 cylinder and all rod bearings and mains were replaced with new ones. All rings were

replaced. The head was surfaced and a new gasket was installed. After installing the engine it was

started and ran 3 times out of the water. It was launched and ran in the water under power for an

additional 1/2 hour. The engine performed well!! Did not apply full power, would recommend a

break-in  period.

The outdrive is a B model, Eaton. It has the capability to swivel 360 deg. Vertical and horizontal.

It can also be removed in this position. I tore it down for inspection and found all gears to be in

excellent condition and replaced seals and gaskets. There is also a new CV boot.

The original bimini top and enclosure are in good condition! The original travel cover is in

bad condition but still available for a pattern for a new one if desired. There is a new modern travel

cover included.

The trailer is the original one. Its a Gator. This was also taken down to the steel and re-painted to the

original color and new decals were added. There are 2 new tires and rims. The original ones come with it also. New lights and wiring were also added.

Its ready for it New Home!!   Nothing rides like a wood Boat!!

All of my pictures are too big for downloading , but I can email them if requested.
