"RESOLUTE"

The Buzzard’s Bay 25 (originally known as the Herreshoff Special Class) was designed by Captain Nat Herreshoff in1914, and built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company in Bristol, Rhode Island. Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful sailboats ever designed, she is a glory to behold and a delight to sail. All who sail Resolute are astounded by her speed, responsiveness and grace, as well as her minimum disturbance in the water. Over the past several years ten Buzzard’s Bay 25s have been built in the Cold Molded West System Epoxy Double bag Vacuum method. These boats have dominated the wooden boat racing circuit in recent years, effortlessly outpacing much larger yachts, with only working sails and minimal crew. Resolute is a stunning example with her Herreshoff green bottom, awl grip black hull and tan decks. She has been lightly used and superbly maintained in an as new condition by her original owner who commissioned her. She is highly recommended for those who desire the ultimate classic for day sailing, overnighting or the popular classic yachting circuit.

Accommodations:

Large berth forward, port and starboard settees in main cabin, two counter tops and stowage areas in main cabin, ample storage, interior traditionally finished in white paint and vanished mahogany and cypress trim. The large cockpit with air tight bulkheads is adequate for 6+ adults, with stowage in lockers.

Deck and Hull

Resolute’s hull was constructed in the Cold Molded double vacuum bag West epoxy system method with edge glued Port Orford Cedar strip planking covered with double diagonal layers of 1/8 inch spruce planking sealed by the vacuum bag system, and finally covered with a layer of fiberglass cloth, set in epoxy resin and finished with Black Awl Grip paint. The centerboard is West System with 200 pounds of inlaid lead. The decks are marine plywood covered in fiberglass cloth, set in epoxy resin and painted light tan. The coamings, toe rails, hatch trim, louvered hatch doors and transom are pristinely varnished mahogany and Resolute appears in gold leaf on the mahogany transom. The cockpit seats and sole are teak. There are custom bronze deck fittings, modern genoa tracks and cars, a double grooved headsail system, two primary sheet winches, two secondary running backstay winches, a halyard winch on the cabin top as well as cabin top jammers for spinnaker halyard, spinnaker foreguy, two Genoa halyards, topping lift, main halyard, Cunningham and out-haul. The permanent Aramid backstay has a magic box for adjustment. There is an aluminum spinnaker pole, and a custom made wooden spinnaker pole for those with extra strength. Resolute is built to the highest standards by Damian McLaughlin Corp. in North Falmouth and never fails to attract attention wherever she goes.
Rigging & Sails

The yacht is Marconi rigged. The main is Stratus Vectran with one reef point. There is a blade jib of Stratus Vectran which is club footed, and there are three overlapping Genoa jibs, one of which is a Dacron Code “O” for ultra light air performance. There is also a lightly used 1/2-oz. spinnaker. All sails were designed and built by Robbie Doyle who participated in the original team from design and construction to launch. There is a four part traveller system for adjustment of the main, along with the adjustable permanent back stay. There is also a four part traveller system for adjusting the blade jib angles, a sail which is remarkably efficient in close quarter racing.
Additional Equipment & Electrical

Resolute has a TakTick racing system with a detachable mahogany mounting for the cockpit bulkhead. She also has a GPS with permanent antenna, two 12 volt batteries to run the navionics and the running lights, cabin lights and masthead light, and a custom made solar panel to keep the batteries charged. Resolute requires someone who can sail to a mooring. She was not designed in 1914 with an engine, and she does not have one. There is also a burgee halyard and a Windex. Resolute comes with a hardly used custom Triad Trailer. The sail covers are beige, and the full cockpit cover is beige. Resoute has Danforth anchor, chain and rode.
Comments

Resolute was built for her owner in 2008 and was the product of a team of sailmaker Robbie Doyle, naval architect Matthew Smith, builder Damian McLaughlin, sailmaster Jack Alexander, and the owner. This gorgeous design has set the standard for beauty, grace, elegance and speed under sail, often out-footing modern fin keel spade rudder designs. Resolute outperforms off the breeze and downwind, with her board up. The varnished mast was custom made of Sitka spruce and designed with internal halyards. The boom is also varnished Sitka spruce. Naval Architect Matthew Smith was meticulous in designing the rig, sheeting angles and sail plan to produce a modern classic with impeccable credentials, and remarkable speed.

Resolute has a large deep secure cockpit, a beautifully finished interior suitable for overnight cruising, and an adjustable, easily managed self tending rig.

Resolute has been meticulously maintained since her maiden year when she prevailed in 21 out of 22 races on the North Shore. Resolute regularly races in the Corinthian/Panarai Classic in Marblehead, and has her fair share of silver. This yacht is recommended only for those who demand a yacht of impeccable credentials and performance with the timeless look of a Herreshoff yacht.
