Further Comments
Three Rivers is a cat-yawl based on noted designer Phil Bolger’s Chebacco design, lapstrake version. Built to high standards 11 years ago, her classical lines and detailed finishing are aesthetically pleasing and draw praise everywhere she goes. At 19 ft 8” and weighing 1200 lbs (w/o batteries), she’s the perfect size for trailering and sailing in lakes and coastal waters. Rigged for single-handing, she can be rigged, launched, and sailed easily by one person. She is stable, roomy, and sails well. She has a large V-berth that’s finished to furniture-grade and is bright and airy, and can comfortably accommodate two adults. With the included custom cockpit enclosure, she can handle extended stay of a young family in all weathers. Her marine-plywood hull and decks are covered with fiber glass and require minimal maintenance, while her spars are made of high-grade Douglas fir and finished in premium varnish, preserving the wooden boat appearance.
Auxiliary propulsion comes from a trusty 8HP Mercury 2-stroke outboard. She is also wired for an 24V electric outboard, which is connected to a band of four deep cycle batteries and provide a reliable, quiet and pleasant drive for those windless days. The batteries also run a set of navigation lights, cabin reading lights, and charter plotter/tablet.
In 2017, on her 10 year anniversary, she was given a whole new coat of varnish on all her spars and trims, and new hull paint. The trailer and Mercury were re-conditioned. She also has a new boat cover.
